The aircraft, one of two from the 731st Airlift Squadron was joined by two more C-130s from the California Air National Guard&rsquo;s 146th Airlift Wing at Channel Islands.  They worked with the U.S. Forest Service and Fire Protection air tankers and ground crews fighting some of northern California&rsquo;s lightning caused fires which lit up the landscape on Aug 11, 1996 by providing aerial fire suppression using the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS).<br \/>\nPublished in Airman Magazine, December 1996.
